Mounting options
-
J-channel
Used mainly to receive vinyl, steel or aluminum siding, and sometimes fiber cement or LP SmartSide siding. The J-channel is outside the vent frame dimension.
On pitched triangles, the J-channel is on the bottom only, because the vent sits all the way up against the soffit in the peak and the top is usually screwed on.
-
Back nail fin (standard nail fin)
Surface mounts over the rough opening. Often used in new construction with brick, stone, stucco, and sometimes wood or fiber cement siding.
The nail fin extends 1" beyond the vent frame dimension and is installed before the exterior finish. Trim or the wall finish covers it.
-
Front flange
The vent body goes into the rough opening, and the flange sits on the outside of the wall. The flange is usually 1-1/4" beyond the vent frame dimension all the way around. Seal under the flange with silicone or caulk.
We usually recommend ordering 1/2" smaller in width and height than the rough opening.
-
Block frame (no nail fin)
Attached with screws through the vent frame. We can provide matching colored mounting screws.
Common for replacements, like recessing into an existing brick or stone opening.
